Topic: Replacement of MNRR Bridge over Atlantic Street
– Phase 1 Stamford, Connecticut
Speakers: Joseph Kidd, P.E. of Siefert Associates, LLC, and Raymond Engen of Yonkers Contracting Company
This presentation will provide a project overview with the
solutions developed to overcome the many challenges encountered to construct
the project without interrupting I95 traffic or Metro North railroad. Utilizing
creative construction staging and innovative temporary excavation support
systems, Yonkers Contracting Corp. with Siefert Associates, LLC developed a safe
efficient method for excavation and construction of the off ramp and
installation of a new utility corridor by jacking three 60" diameter pipes
beneath the heavily traveled railroad.
This fast-tracked project is the critical first phase of the
Replacement and Widening of the Metro North Bridge over Atlantic Ave in
Stamford; Phase 2 will constructed utilizing Accelerated Bridge Construction
(ABC) techniques. Phase 1 involves reconfiguration of I95 Exit 8 off ramp,
moving it much closer to the highway and relocation of utilities to allow for
increased vertical clearance under Atlantic Avenue.
